Your Body Already Makes the Weight Loss Drug Everyone’s Talking About
Yesterday my son Jack and I spent several hours in the laboratory at Westminster University with Dr Isabella Cooper, going through her published research on what happens inside the body when you change the way you eat. And one finding stopped me in my tracks.
Her study looked at healthy women who had been eating a low-carb, real food diet for an average of nearly four years. Their bodies were producing high levels of a hormone called GLP-1. You might know that name. It’s the same hormone that Ozempic and Wegovy are designed to mimic.
Then the researchers asked these women to switch to the diet recommended by the UK government. The Eatwell Guide. Fifty-five percent carbohydrates. You know the stuff, bread, pasta, potatoes, etc.
Within 21 days, their natural GLP-1 production dropped by 2.4 times. Their insulin nearly doubled. Their insulin resistance marker doubled too.
Here’s where it gets properly mad. The UK government is now offering GPs £3,000 a year just to recommend GLP-1 weight loss jabs. The very same hormone that the government’s own dietary guidelines are suppressing.
Let me say that again. The government’s food advice is switching off your body’s natural weight loss system. Then the government is paying doctors to prescribe a synthetic version to switch it back on.
You couldn’t make it up
