Turn It Off

1 min read

Here's the thing.

If the news is getting you down right now, especially all these wars and conflicts that seem to have no end, I want you to ask yourself one simple question.

Can you personally influence the outcome?

If the answer is no, and for 99.9% of us it is, then stop watching it. Stop reading it. Just turn it off.

I'm not saying bury your head in the sand. I'm saying protect your head from things that are only doing it harm. There's a massive difference.

Your body doesn't know the difference between stress caused by a work deadline and stress caused by watching a bombing on a 24-hour news channel. Cortisol is cortisol. Your blood pressure rises. Your sleep suffers. Your gut takes a hit. And none of it changes a single thing happening thousands of miles away.

Now, if for some reason you feel you genuinely need to stay up to date, first question that decision. Really question it. Is it actually helping you, or has it just become a habit? Is scrolling through bad news at 11pm making you a better person, a better parent, a better friend? Or is it just making you anxious?

And if after all that, you still decide you need to know what's going on, then fine. But remember this.

You only control one thing: how you respond.

Not the politicians. Not the generals. Not the algorithms designed to keep you doom-scrolling. Just you. Your thoughts. Your actions. Your health.

That's not selfish. That's sensible. Because looking after yourself is the single most powerful thing you can do for the people around you.

Your action today: Tonight, instead of watching or reading the news before bed, open your Clubwell app and spend five minutes writing in your journal. Write down three things that went well today. Replace the doom with gratitude. Your sleep will thank you.
