The Secret to Happiness (That Nobody Talks About)
Right now, as you read this, you're probably worrying about something you can't control.
As you know, I've been studying Stoicism recently, and here's what keeps hitting me: maybe the entire secret to happiness is brutally simple. Focus all your attention, all your thoughts, your entire mind on just the two things you can actually control. Let go of everything else.
Those two things? Your actions and your reactions.
That's it.
Not what others think of you. Not the weather. Not the economy. Not what Donald Trump is doing. Not even your health outcomes, just the daily choices that influence them.
Here's the thing, we waste massive mental energy on things completely outside our control. Then we scroll social media and compare our messy reality to everyone else's highlight reel.
Remember that old song? "The sun always shines on TV." Well, the sun always shines on Instagram too.
The Stoics figured this out 2,000 years ago. Your peace of mind isn't determined by what happens to you, it's determined by how you respond to what happens to you.
Think about your health journey. You can't control your genetics. You can't control how your body responded to years of ultra processed food before you knew better. You can't control food industry marketing or restaurant menus.
But you can control what you put in your shopping trolley today. You can control whether you read that food label. You can control your next meal.
Your action today: Write down what's actually in your control right now. Then write down what isn't. Look at that second list and practice letting it go.
