The power of Aqua
I must confess, I was once a water sceptic. Why settle for mundane H2O when the world is brimming with more tantalising beverages?
I must confess, I was once a water sceptic. Why settle for mundane H2O when the world is brimming with more tantalising beverages? However, after plunging into a sea of research, I've surfaced with a revelation: our bodies are rather partial to a daily dose of about 1.5 to 2.5 litres of water. If you're slender and the gym isn't your second home, 1.5 litres might do the trick. But for the gym warriors and those carrying a bit more muscle, 2.5 litres could be your magic number. To paint a picture, a 70 kg human can wave goodbye to about 1.5 litres of water daily through sweating, breathing, and the ever-glamorous act of urinating. And if you're giving it your all in the gym, especially under the unforgiving gaze of the sun, that number can soar to 1.5 litres an hour. Hydration, dear friend, isn't just a suggestion; it's a command from your body! But is there such a thing as too much of a good splash? Well, unless you're aspiring to be a human aquarium, you're likely in the clear. Our kidneys, those unsung heroes of filtration, can process about 27 to 34 fluid ounces of water an hour or a staggering 20 to 28 litres a day. So, unless you're on a mission to challenge the capacities of your internal plumbing, you're probably safe.
If you find water as exciting as watching paint dry, fear not! A twist of lemon, lime, or a slice of ginger can turn your glass from bland to grand. And let's spill the tea (or should I say water?) – if you're sipping more coffee or tea than a barista in high season, perhaps it's the warm hug of hot water your body craves, not the caffeine kick. Why not experiment? A warm water symphony with a cameo of blackberries, blueberries, or a dash of lime might strike a chord with your taste buds...
