This topic is deeply personal to me. My mother has Alzheimer's disease and has reached the heartbreaking stage where she can no longer speak. Watching someone you love disappear before your eyes, seeing their personality and memories fade away whilst their body remains, is one of the most devastating experiences any family can endure.
Yet here's what gives me hope, and why Clubwell proudly financially supports the Food for the Brain Foundation: this cruel disease is largely preventable.
The Truth About Alzheimer's Prevention

Professor David Smith from Oxford University states it clearly: "Alzheimer's is not an inevitable consequence of ageing, nor is it all 'in the genes'. It is largely a preventable disease and we know quite a lot about what people need to do to help prevent it."
Only one in 100 cases of Alzheimer's is truly genetic. The other 99% develops because of factors we can control. Half of all dementia risk comes from modifiable lifestyle factors, meaning we have the power to protect our brains through the choices we make every day.
This isn't wishful thinking. It's evidence from hundreds of scientific studies showing that simple diet and lifestyle changes could cut Alzheimer's risk by at least a third. That's 260 fewer people diagnosed daily in the UK alone.
